Description

Civil Foremen should have 4-6 years of experience in the construction field or in a related area. Individuals should be knowledgeable of a variety of advanced concepts, practices, and procedures and should be able to perform all job tasks described below. These individuals must undergo IMI’s Foremen Training to be familiar with all standard operating procedures and policies of the company. They should have a strong understanding of their specific customers’ procedures and policies. Generally, Construction Foremen are assigned to service one to two main customers. They rely heavily on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish tasks and work under limited supervision.

These individuals may be required to lead and direct the work of others. They are required to assist with maintaining tools and equipment and perform various cleanup and housekeeping activities. They are to observe and follow all safety rules and procedures set forth by IMI and OSHA. These employees report to a General Foreman or Project Manager.

Tasks that Construction Foremen are required to perform include, but are not limited to:

  • Successfully complete IMI’s Foreman training, so that they can consistently apply company policies and procedures.

  • Apply the company’s corrective action policy where applicable.

  • Champion and provide leadership resulting in a safe, positive, and respectful work culture.

  • Function as the on-site Quality Lead as required to support the IMI Quality Management System.

  • Ability to apply basic arithmetic skills to work related situations.

  • Set and maintain work standards and outline behavioral expectations to ensure crew morale and productivity.

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of workers engaged in the demolition, construction, and maintenance of structures, facilities, and systems to ensure that work is performed safely, correctly, and timely.

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of workers engaged in the placement, finishing, and repair of concrete to ensure that work is performed safely, correctly, and timely.

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of workers engaged in the process of digging, supporting, and refilling trenches or excavations to ensure that work is performed safely, correctly, and timely.

  • Ability to serve as a liaison between customers, vendors, project managers, and other employees regarding current and future projects.

  • Strong communication skills, especially with respect to directing others.

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate, including speak, hear, and understand English.

  • Inspects quality of all work to ensure company standards and project specifications are met.

  • Assists workers in their performance of assigned duties.

  • Analyzes and resolves work related problems.

  • Reviews materials received at jobsite to ensure it is correct and not defective.

  • Checks equipment to ensure proper working conditions.

  • Maintains time and tracks production.

  • Interprets and enforces company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations per company and customer policies to employees.

  • Ability to communicate with Project Managers and General Foremen about establishing and adjusting work sequences to meet schedules, using knowledge of capacities of equipment and assigned personnel.

  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple employees and projects at once.

  • Participates and monitors Monday morning Toolbox safety meetings.

  • Participates in safety/incident investigations and reviews.

  • Ensure that all initial safety and hazard assessments (JHA’s and Worksite Safety Inspections) required by IMI and our customers are completed before work begins.

  • Ensure that all IMI and customer permits have been obtained before work begins.

  • Provide mentoring to subordinate employees.

  • Perform assessments of competency and capabilities of subordinate employees; evaluating crew capability, training, coaching, to ensure that the crew meets required levels of quality.
